Female Officer Puts Her Hair At Risk To Vitalize No Shave November Donations

NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Police Sgt. Dana Schebaum didn’t grow a single whisker during the police department’s No Shave November campaign to benefit cancer patients, but she is doing her part to vitalize collections.

Schebaum: “We weren’t quite having the donations come in that we had last year, so I thought I would put it out there, since all the guys grew a beard and I obviously can’t grow a beard, I would shave my head, if we raised enough money.”

Police set a goal of raising $1,500 to benefit the infusion center for cancer patients at CHI Health St. Mary’s, but had only collected $700 at the end of November.

Sgt. Ben Murry said if the campaign can raise $1,500 by Wednesday, Dec. 7, he will donate $2 for a stocking cap for Sgt. Schebaum to wear this winter.

To reach the goal, donors will have to give at least $114 a day for the next seven days and Sgt. Schebaum says officers are considering the possibilities.

Schebaum: “They’re excited. I think they are anticipating that I will have to shave my head.”

Donation jars are available at the police station, Arbor Mart, Casey’s and Speedee Mart.
