Doane’s Defense Stays Tall as They Win on The Road over #18 Midland

FREMONT – The Doane Tigers improved to 5-0 with a big victory on the road at #18 Midland, 30-20. They gave up no points in the second half.

The scoring began with a 56 yard touchdown pass from Jack Shadley to Hunter Bradley. Then, Drew Klein took a handoff five yards in for a touchdown to give Doane a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Midland responded with an 81 yard from Quarterback Garry Cannon to set up a one yard touchdown run for Deon Ransom.

Following a Andres Burgoin field goal at the end of the first quarter, Nate Meier ran it in from 20 yards to put the Tigers up 23-7. He ran for 76 yards and that touchdown in the first half.

To end the first half, Lukas Vopnford of Midland rushed for a 40 yard touchdown and Garry Cannon’s pass to Javonte Williams went for a 26 yard touchdown. The score was 23-20 at the halftime break.

The Tigers extended their lead to 30-20 on their second drive of the second half with another Meier rushing touchdown. This one was from the one yard line.

That would be all the scoring in this one.

Doane’s defense stood tall allowing zero points in the second half to get the victory and remain undefeated.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Nate Meier with 134 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Jack Shadley finished with 183 yards and a touchdown.

Garry Cannon threw for 459 yards and a touchdown, along with two interceptions, for the Warriors (5-1). Javonte Williams had a huge day with eight catches for 312 yards and a touchdown.

Doane improves to 5-0 and will travel to Morning side in a GPAC showdown next week. You can hear it live on Ol Red 99.5.
