CRETE – Even a little lightning couldn’t stop the #5 Doane Tigers from winning their fourth straight to begin their season over #16 Concordia, 27-7.
A lightning delay caused the 1 p.m. kickoff to be pushed back to 2:45. It took the Doane offense until 13 seconds before halftime to score offensively, but their defense and special teams kept them in the game.
Cole Wiseman opened up the scoring as he took a Bulldog punt 62 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to put Doane up 7-0.
Riley WIltfong then hit Jared Garcia for a 15 yard touchdown later in the quarter.
There would be no scoring again until Jack Shadley ran it in from five yards out to give the Tigers a 13-7 lead with only 13 seconds left to play in the first half.
During halftime, the game would be delayed thirty more minutes due to lighting.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers would put away the Bulldogs, as Jack Shadley hit Defensive Lineman Aaron Hanlin for a 24 yard touchdown and Nate Meier capped off a big day with a 4 yard touchdown.
The Tigers defense forced four interceptions, and Nate Meier led the offense with 121 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Doane is now 4-0 on the season and will face a third straight top 25 opponent next week. They travel to #25 Midland. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game can be heard live on Ol Red 99.5.
