DESHLER – The Deshler boys basketball team used a big third quarter to knock off Exeter-Milligan 53-49 in their season opener Thursday night.
Exeter-Milligan had a three point lead at halftime, but the Dragons opened the third on a 10-0 run to go in front for good. Exeter-Milligan got a late scoring flurry to cut the deficit to three points and had an opportunity with under a minute remaining, but Seth Maxson’s three pointer missed the mark and Mason Roth knocked down a free throw to seal the win.
Roth led Deshler with 17 points in the game while sophomore Peyton Dubbert added 14. Exeter-Milligan was led by Cameron White with 16 points and 19 rebounds.
The girls game was also close at the half, but Exeter-Milligan pulled away in the second half to win 52-41.
Deshler was unable to handle Sydney Hall, who led the Timberwolves with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Roth was Deshler’s top scorer with 14.
Both teams will be right back in action Friday night with Exeter-Milligan returning home to face Osceola while Deshler hosts Silver Lake.
