The Beatrice and Norris football teams both had to endure lengthy weather delays due to severe thunderstorms with lightning and torrential rainfall before celebrating victories on the gridiron.
The Orangemen waited nearly five hours on Friday night to complete their 35-12 win over Waverly, finishing shortly before midnight at Lincoln Pius. The game was delayed with ten minutes remaining and Beatrice holding a 28-12 lead.
The Titans completed their 35-19 win over Crete early Saturday afternoon at Norris High School. The game was delayed Friday night with Norris leading 14-12 in the second quarter. Norris improved to 4-3, and dropped the Cardinals to 1-6 on the year.
For Beatrice, Sophomore A.J. Mahoney scored touchdowns on three shuttle passes from Trevor Schmale. Nebraska recruit, Cameron Jurgens, returned to action after missing three games due to an injury, and scored the other two touchdowns for the Orangemen, including the final touchdown after the weather delay. Beatrice improved to 6-1, and Waverly fell to 4-3.
The game was moved from Waverly to Lincoln Pius on Friday because of field conditions.
