WILBER – A strong pitching performance by Carter Kent helped the Crete senior legion baseball team knock of Wilber 5-1 on Friday.
Kent pitched a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and three walks while striking out ten.
Crete got on the board early when Blake Feeken walked in the first inning, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored on a grounder by Trevor Nickel. They’d score again in the second when Feeken walked with the bases loaded to bring home Peyton Schaneman.
Wilber got on the board in the third when Tanner Sand got a two out single then advanced to third on a throwing error. Then Dillon Rieschick drove him in with an RBI single to make it 2-1.
It became a pitchers dual after that with Kent putting up four scoreless innings. Wilber starting pitcher Colton Johnson allowed only those two runs in six innings of work.
Crete got some insurance runs in the seventh when a leadoff single by Garrett Skillett and a double by Nickel set the table for a three run inning. Then Kent got a strikeout a groundout and another strike out in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.
With the victory Crete improves its record to 4-7 while Wilber falls to 5-8.
