COLUMBUS, Neb. – Platte County Sheriff deputies were forced to chase a man by vehicle and foot before arresting him Thursday evening.
Sheriff Ed Wemhoff says a deputy attempted to stop 25-year-old Nelson Reina-Lopez of Columbus who was driving around the intersection of 53rd St. and 63rd Ave., but he refused to stop and instead fled northbound.
Wemhoff says Reina-Lopez attempted to turn right onto 83rd St. when he lost control of the vehicle and landed in a ditch. He then tried to run from authorities and deputies eventually found him in a tree line east of the crash.
He was booked on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, fictitious plates, possession of drug paraphernalia and three stop sign violations.
Reina-Lopez was already set to be in court this month on a felony charge of assaulting a pregnant woman.
He is in jail on a $25,000 bond.
