Class B: All Underdogs Win, Including Crete Over Hastings

HASTINGS – It was a good day to be the lower seed in Class B Wednesday. Every underdog was able to win their first round matchups.

In the 2 vs. 7 contest, it was the Crete Cardinals topping the Hastings Tigers, 5-2. Jayda Weyand hit a two run home run in the fourth, and two insurance runs from Camry Moore and Elizabeth Eltze in the seventh was the difference.

The Cardinals advance to play the #6 Seward Bluejays. They defeated York in their opener, 10-6. Crete beat Seward to win the District Championship, 3-1.

In other Class B action, #5 Gretna topped #4 Wayne, 12-3. The Dragons scored the final nine runs of the game, including five in the final inning.

Gretna moves on to play #8 McCook. The Bison shocked #1 Elkhorn South in their first round game, 9-5.
