Cardinals Flying High at Right Time Entering State Tournament

LINCOLN – After starting their year 9-7, Crete has really turned it on late in the season, playing their best basketball heading into Lincoln Thursday.

The #7 seeded Crete Cardinals finished the season on a five game winning streak, including winning seven out of their last eight games. Entering the tournament, Crete has proved their defense is one of the best in the state. Thanks to their length (three players start 6’3″ or taller), they have given up only 39 points per game throughout the season.

That defense is going to be tested right away. They will be playing #2 Scottsbluff, who averages 75 points per game. During their 24-2 season, they scored over 100 points twice, including 110 in their District Final win over Gering. The Bearcats are led by Andru Kuxhausen. The senior averages 29.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Crete relies heavily on two scorers, Carter Kent and Rhett Harms. Kent scores just shy of 15 points per game, while the Air Force Football commit, Harms, averages about 11 points per game.

#2 Scottsbluff takes on #7 Crete live on Ol Red 99-5. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center on Thursday.
