FALLS CITY – Charles Laux fell five votes short of his bid for one of three seats on the Dawson Village Board in Tuesday’s general election.
Laux got 20 votes, compared to 25 for Lyndsay Maahs, 31 for Michele Wendtlandt and 42 for Dennis McClarnen.
Laux is a former Richardson County sheriff who was named in an $80,000 judgment against the county for his role in the Teena Brandon case, which inspired the movie Boys Don’t Cry.
In Nebraska Supreme Court Justice John Hendry’s opinon, he said Sheriff Laux was more concerned with Brandon’s sexuality than he was with keeping her safe after she reported she had been raped.
Brandon was posing as a young man in 1993 when she was murdered in a Humboldt farmhouse.
