Beatrice Special Olympics Team Is Good As Gold At Summer Games

OMAHA – The Beatrice Area Special Olympics team had great success at this year’s Summer Games in Track and Field and Swimming.

According to numbers released by the Head of Delegation for the Beatrice Special Olympics, Toni Reiman, there was 39 athletes that competed in Track and Field and 19 participated in Swimming. 13 athletes competed in both Track and Field and Swimming.

The Beatrice Special Olympics team earned 46-Gold Medals, 28-Silver Medals and 14-Bronze Medals in this year’s competitions.

Athletes that earned gold medals in their respective events at the Summer Games recently include Marissa DeLaRosa, Steve Chlupacek, Josh Brenden, Tiffany and Greg Campion, Wayne Pumel, Tulsa Otto, Brielle Salberg and Gene Lueders.

Other gold medal winners included Tyler Reiman, Steve Goeking, Holly Murkle, Hali Sykes-Denton, Chelsea Denton, Dylan Cullison, Jesse Petet, Drew Franzen-Bartels, Quentyn Kuklish and Colby Paul.

Also claiming gold medals were Rachel Huls, Jeff Dishong, David Mercer, Marsha Baker, Daniel Otto, Tesla Martin, Austin Meyers, Ron Tillman and Josh Netherton.

Other athletes earning medals and competing for the Beatrice Area Special Olympics team in their respective events were John Melroy, Abraham Bruno, Jon Crow, Eric Vanboening, Randall Melroy, Dalton Lueders, Elaine Richards, April Melroy, Bradley Fankhauser, Abbie Glaser, Ben Martin, Bob Vanover, Alex Lyons, Josh Dishong, Joseph Staley, Jesse Kleveland and Alexis Schweitzer.

Coach Cameron Reiman agreed to let the athletes give him a haircut if the team won at least ten gold medals, which they easily exceeded.
