BEATRICE – On Parent’s Night in Beatrice, the Orangemen and Lady O were able to hold off the Vikings from Grand Island Northwest in a sweep on Friday night.
In the girls game, Beatrice (12-6) turned the basketball over 24 times, including four times in a row to close the game, but still managed to close out the Lady Vikings (14-5), 41-40.
Michaela Jones finished the game with 22 points, while Carly Leners also added nine points and ten rebounds.
Whitney Brown had seven points, six assists and four steals for Northwest.
The Lady O head to Omaha Mercy on Saturday, while Northwest hosts McCook next Friday.
The boys game was not as close. Beatrice (15-4) turned it on in the third quarter to turn an 11 point halftime lead into a 25 point lead entering the final period. They would win over the Vikings, 71-45.
It was Beatrice’s 30th straight win at home.
Brandel Riekenberg knocked down six threes and had 20 points for the Orangemen. Dillon Buss added 16 points and Cameron Jurgens finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Justin Hiser led the Vikings (5-16) with 12 points and six rebounds.
Beatrice heads to the Heartland Event Center on Saturday to take on Gretna at the Heartland Hoops Classic in Grand Island.
Northwest joins their girls team and hosts McCook next Friday.
