District golf is underway this week, and a number of area athletes have punched their tickets to the state meet.
Starting with Beatrice, the Orangemen finished as district runners-up at the Beatrice Country Club Monday, and have qualified for state as a team. They finished with a team score of 364.
Beatrice also had three golfers place in the top ten. Andrew Paquette led the way for his team, placing 6th with a score of 88. Teammate and fellow senior Trenton Jurgens was right behind in 7th with an 89. Bryant Jurgens finished 9th with a score of 90.
At the Beatrice Country Club, a number of area teams competed. One of them was Norris, and the Titans won the district championship with a team score of 340. Freshman Logan Thurber won the meet with an impressive score of 80.
Moving down to Class D, the Exeter-Milligan golf team has qualified for state, placing third at their district meet at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island.
Senior Trevor Zelanka led his team, placing third overall with a score of 90. Elsewhere in this meet, several other local golfers qualified for state. Starting with Deshler, Hutch Finke and Adam Roth each placed inside the top 10 to qualify.
Finke was fourth with 90, and Roth was sixth with a 95.
Turning to Shickley, junior Josh Swartzendruber and senior Caleb Hendrickson each qualified for the state meet. Swartzendruber was eighth with a 96, and Hendrickson ninth with a 97.
Lastly, Friend senior Blaze Miller qualified for state, placing 10th with a score of 97.
Several other schools are competing in district golf Tuesday. In Class C, Fairbury is in Grand Island. In Class D, Southern, Fillmore Central, Milford and Thayer Central are competing at Lincoln Christian.
State golf is held May 21-22. Class B will compete in Columbus, Class C is in Kearney and Class D will go to North Platte.
