PERU, NE – Bobcat senior women’s golfer Jessica Weickert (Beatrice) managed the gusting winds on her team’s home course to win the Peru State Women’s Golf Spring Invitational. The two-day invite was held at the Golf Club at Table Creek in Nebraska City.
Sunday was warm and windy while Monday was much cooler with gusting winds all day which proved to be tricky for the 31 golfers from five institutions competing.
Weickert had the best rounds both days as she shot a 76 on Sunday and followed up with a 79 on Monday for a two-day total of 155. Her nearest competitor was 12 strokes behind.
The Briar Cliff (Iowa) Chargers won the invite with a team total of 677. Waldorf (Iowa) was second with a 698 while the Bobcats finished third with a 703. The College of St. Mary was fourth with a 712 while Doane was fifth with a 752.
Peru State senior Marisa Pribnow (Lincoln) finished in a tie for third with a 168 having had rounds of 84 and 84.
The Bobcats have just one regular-season tournament remaining on their spring 2017 schedule. Next week the ‘Cats will participate in the Mike “Fluff” Cowan Invitational hosted by William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on April 17 and 18.
Peru State’s final tournament of the season will be the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament which will also be held in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on May 8 and 9.
