Beatrice Falls Ninety Feet Short on Senior Night

Beatrice Falls Ninety Feet Short on Senior Night
The Beatrice baseball team honored their seniors and their parents on Tuesday night.

BEATRICE – Caleb Wallman went the distance on the mound for Beatrice, but they fell one run short of an upset of #3 Gretna on Tuesday night, 3-2.

Jacob Pinkerton’s single in the bottom of the seventh would advance Noah Boller to second with two outs, but a gamble to try to advance to third failed as he would be thrown out from right field on a nice relay to end the game.

The winning run proved to come in the top of the fifth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Tanner Tierney, scoring Caleb French.

Gretna got three hits and two runs from French in the game.

The Orangemen were led by two hits from both Brandel Riekenberg and Jacob Adams.

Ryan Samuelson would throw four innings on the mound and get the win for the Dragons, striking out eight. Gage Larsen threw the final three innings, giving up only two hits and striking out five.

Caleb Wallman threw all seven innings for the Orangemen giving up eight hits and striking out three.

Beatrice drops to 6-8 on the season and will host Mount Michael Benedictine on Saturday. The matchup will air live on NCN 21 television.

The #3 Dragons are now 13-5 on the year.
