Auburn Welcomes Hunter To Economic Development Role

AUBURN – Auburn Development Council hosted an open house Wednesday for new economic development consultant Bill Hunter.

ADC Chairwoman  Katy Billings said Hunter can help the volunteer organization produce a formal economic development plan.

Billings: “He’s worn a lot of different hats in his life and I think he’s going to offer us a lot of bang for our buck and do a lot of great things for our community.”

Billings said economic development covers a wide range of factors for quality of life, such as jobs, housing and education.

Billings: “The biggest thing that we’re looking for here is someone to lead us in the right direction. We’ve had such a broad vision , ADC, this broad vision of economic development and I think that Bill will really be able to help us narrow our path a little bit.”

Hunter sees his role as providing the statistics and public feedback that policy makers may use to move Auburn forward.

He said he has been impressed by the welcome he has received and the public’s drive for economic development.

Hunter: “Ultimately it is they who are going to determine that direction. You see, economic development is not a spectator sport. It takes all of us. No matter where you are, where you are at, you are an ambassador for the community.”

The open house was held at BCom Solutions, where Hunter will have an office.

The ADC’s recent accomplishments include establishing Nemaha County Leadership and its focus has been on business retention, housing and preservation of commercial districts.
