OMAHA – Thayer Central had a top-five team finish in Class-C boys, as Aubrey Fangmeier had gold medal performances in the 800-Meter Run and as a member of the 3200-Meter Relay team.
The Sterling boys placed 6th in the Class-D team standings, with Tristan Dirks leading the Jets with a runner-up finish in the 200-Meter Dash.
The Tri-County boys finished 7th in Class-D, and Creighton Niemeyer paced the Trojans with a gold medal performance in the 1600-Meter Run, as well as a silver medal finish in the 3200-Meter Relay with Cooper Smith, Evan Larson and Jack Holsing. Niemeyer placed third in the 800-Meter Run.
The Johnson County Central girls had a top-ten team finish in Class-C, with Maddie Moran pacing the Thunderbirds with a gold medal performance in the 100-Meter Dash and a state runner-up finish in the 200-Meter Dash.
Other area athletes earning state championships were Andrew Davis of Pawnee City in the Class-D Discus, and Thomas Mick of Bruning-Davenport-Shickley in the Class-D Pole Vault.
Area athletes with state runner-up finishes included Kyle Dickinson of Friend in the 400-Meter Dash and 800-Meter Run, Raeleigh Menke of Friend in the Class-D Discus, Grace Jacobson of Fillmore Central and Madison Gerken of McCool Junction, both in the 3200-Meter Run.
The Crete 1600-Meter Relay team of Carter Reckling, Blake Sears, Klay Uher and Zach Turner won a silver medal, along with teammate Zach Muff in the Class-B Pole Vault.
