The 2018 Fall Honors Recital celebrates musical excellence at Wayne State College.  Faculty members nominate diligent students who have made significant progress for this special performance.  The 2018 Fall Honors Recital is Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Ramsey Theatre.  The concert is free and open to the public.

Annual Christmas Bird Count at Ponca State Park

Birdwatchers of all ages, from beginners to experienced are invited to participate in Ponca State Park’s Annual Christmas Bird Count on December 14th. Members of the Loess Hills Audubon Society will assist guests and birders report sightings and comparing notes. The National Audubon Society compiles the results from Christmas Bird Counts from across the nation beginning December 14th thru January 5th. Information gathered becomes part of a long-term database, used by conservationists and researchers. Ponca State Park’s Annual Christmas Bird Count takes flight at 8:00 am on December 14th. There will be chicken noodle soup 12:00 – 1:00 pm for all participants and 1:00 – 5:00 pm additional birding will take place. Please dress for the weather. Bring binoculars and bird books. Scout Paper Drive & Aluminum Can Recycling

Wayne and Wakefield Boy Scouts will conduct their monthly paper and aluminum can recycling drive this Saturday. Acceptable paper items include newspapers, magazines, coupons, office papers, phone books, and paperback books. Hard back books are acceptable but please remove the cover or keep them separate. Please NO PLASTIC, CARDBOARD, Trash or Items WITH A SPIRAL BINDING (PLASTIC OR METAL) mixed in with the paper. Paper items should be placed in paper grocery bags or boxes and set at the curb by 8:00 a.m. along with Aluminum cans for pick up. Recyclables for the Wayne Scouts may also be dropped off at the Scout trailer at the Transfer Station in Wayne during transfer station hours.

QuickBooks Training in Plainview

A Basic QuickBooks workshop will be offered to local entrepreneurs and business owners on Wednesday, Dec. 19. This free event is sponsored by the Center for Rural Affairs’ Rural Enterprise Assistance Project (REAP) Women’s Business Center and Plainview Economic Development.

The session will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Plainview Public Library, 209 N. Pine Street, in Plainview. Computers will be provided.

“Accurate recordkeeping can be beneficial to the success of an entrepreneur’s business,” said Kim Preston, REAP Women’s Business Center director. “Recordkeeping can quickly identify past due accounts and help collect those accounts in a timelier manner. That helps cash flow and viability.”

Small business owners will learn how to utilize the software for tracking their income and expenses, set up company files, create customers, vendors, run reports, and utilize the banking features.

Crofton Booster Club Youth Basketball Tournament

The Crofton Booster Club youth basketball tournament will be held Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th 2019 in Crofton Nebraska.  The tournament is open to boys and girls teams in grades 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th/8th.  Cost is $100 per team if registered by January 2nd.  Late registration fee is $110.  For more information please contact Theresa Guenther at 605-660-7944.
